The Sport You Are Going To Play!

How Can I Play?

The game of FootGolf is played from the teeing zone with each player aiming for the hole on the green zone in the fewest number of kicks. It is played with minimal supervision of a marshal and depends on the integrity of the player to show consideration for other players and to abide by the rules.

All footgolfers should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner demonstrating courtesy at all times and sportsmanship regardless of how competitive they may be. This is the spirit of FootGolf.

THE UNIFORM

Since the game is played on a golf course, the basic uniform of FootGolf is golf apparel, with indoor or turf soccer shoes.

THE BALL

The ball must be a soccer ball #5. No rubber ball or any other than a regulation #5 soccer ball, similar to FIFA Approved.

HISTORY

Who invented FootGolf?

The sport of FootGolf as we know it today (including attire, etiquette and general rules)  was created in the Netherlands by Bas Korsten & Michael Jansen of commercial creativity agency Nothing in 2008. Loosely basing it on a post-training game played by Korsten's brother - professional soccer player Willem Korsten, during his time at English soccer club Tottenham Hotspur (1999 - 2001). When Spurs players would end training sessions by kicking the balls from the training-pitch back to the changing rooms in as few kicks as possible. Later Belgium and Hungary switched from playing in parks to golf courses and the game was introduced to Argentina in 2010.

The sport was officially launched as FootGolf when Korsten, Jansen and a team of colleagues set up a national and international bond, and organised the first tournament to be played on a golf course (Nederlandse Kampioenschap FootGolf) at prestigious Golfbaan Het Rijk van Nijmegen on September 6th, 2009. This tournament, later televised on RTL7, was played by Dutch professional and ex-professional soccer players and won by Theo Janssen.

The American FootGolf League was founded in 2011. The game was internationally publicized, and countries worldwide started collaborating on the development of the game. FootGolf has been recognized or is in the process of being recognized as a sport in many countries.
